Top 10 worst World Cup's matches ever

Being in a World Cup does not means a beautiful football. Over the course of several editions of the competition already happened a couple matches, when teams leave football outside field. You remember those games? What was the worst game in the history of the cup in your opinion? We selected ten matches.

(WC 1994) Korea Republic vs Bolivia
Korea and Bolivia did a horrible game at Foxboro Stadium. Almost no chance to score, many yellow cards (seven) and red (for the Bolivian Cristaldo) was all that happened (or not happened) in Boston that afternoon.
It is not for nothing that both teams were eliminated in the first round.



(WC 2010) Algeria vs Slovenia
Conducted a ghastly game debut in 2010's WC of the two teams and deserve to be on that list. Few scoring chances, too many wrong passes and even the noisy vuvuzelas were not able to save me from sleep.
At the end of the game, Robert Koren scored the winner goal six minutes after the expulsion of the Algerian Abdelkader Gheezal and decreed the first Slovenian Cup win.




(WC 2006) Argentina vs Netherlands
All waiting memorable duel between two of the favorites, but Argentine and Dutch forces preferred to save players to next round. Both teams already qualified, did a warm game in Frankfurt and, despite 19 shots on goal, deserve enter this list, cuz was the disappointment that the public, which had a very high expectation in the game.




(WC 1982) Germany vs Austria
Germany needed a single win to progress through to the round and scored the winning goal after just 10 minutes, with Horst Hrubesch. What we saw then were two teams, German language and already classified with the result, touching the ball on the defensive end of the field until the end of game. The crowd rioted, a German fan burned the country's flag and Algerians (who would qualify with a draw), disgusted, showing money in protest. The confrontation became known as "The Shame of Gijón."



(WC 2006) Switzerland vs Ukraine
Switzerland left Germany with clean sheet. But they were eliminated in round of 16 on penalty shoot out. After 120 minutes of a poorly football and a goalless draw, the Swiss managed to miss all the penalties in the contest and lost by 3-0 to the Ukrainians, then eliminated by Italy.



(WC 1990) Ireland vs Egypt
Ireland qualified for the quarterfinals without having won a single game in 90's Cup. In the first phase, besides the duel with Egypt, were two draws by 1-1, with Holland and England. Round of 16, and another 0-0, penalty shootout victory over Romania. In the quarterfinals, Italy dispatched the Irish with a small 1-0. Ireland came back home with four draws and one defeat in five clashes with meager two goals.

(WC 2014) Iran vs Nigeria
In the Cup of Cups the first round was fantastic. Great matches, too many goals. Until Iran and Nigeria meet at Curitiba. Both teams were horrible in this match, and the result was the first 0-0 from 2014 World Cup.


(WC 1998) Paraguay vs Bulgaria
Paraguay and Bulgaria debuted in 98 making a horrible match in Montpellier. We expected more about Bulgarian, 4th place in previous World Cup and eliminated with a shameful rout by 6-1 to Spain. Paraguayans just fell in the second round, and then against hosts France champion after extra time.



(WC  1974) Australia vs Chile
What say about two teams who together scored just one goal in five games in the World Cup 1974. In a group that had East and West Germany, Chilean and Australian led seven goals and not won any duel that tournament. On 22 June of that year, 14 thousand people witnessed one of the worst games of all time.



(WC 1974) Brazil vs Scotland
The "Seleção" of 1974 directed the second consecutive time by Zagallo and without Pelé, Gerson, Carlos Alberto Torres, Tostão and Clodoaldo, was neither shadow of champion team in 1970. The audience Waldstadion Stadium left the field disappointed with the team that took home the Jules Rimet trophy four years ago.
